New Delhi, Aug 1. Creamy layers must be excluded from ambit of all reservations for Scheduled Castes and Tribes, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday. The creamy lawyer concept was so far applicable only to Other Backward Castes (OBCs). The top court also ruled that the state could provide for sub-quotas for more disadvantaged or unrepresented within an existing quota whether in the SC or ST category. New Delhi, April 26. The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea to do away with the electronic voting system (through Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs) and return to the old paper ballot system. The court also rejected alternate pleas to allow for 100 per cent verification of VVPATs (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) to prevent rigging or allow the voter to personally verify his vote. New Delhi, Feb 4. Elected members of Houses will be liable for prosecution for taking any bribes for voting on the floor of the house, the Supreme Court ruled on Monday. A seven-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud accordingly set aside an earlier 1998 ruling which said that they were immune from prosecution in connection with voting on the floor of any House. “We disagree with and overrule the (1998) judgement,” the court said in a unanimous judgement. New Delhi, Feb 15. Right to information of a voter includes the right to information of financial contributions to a political party because of the influence of money in electoral politics and governmental decisions, through a seat at the table and quid pro quo arrangements between the contributor and the political party, the Supreme Court said on Thursday.
